About

My name is Jason Moriarty and this is a picture I took on the while hiking along the Batura Glacier Pakistan in 2007. I did this 46 mile hike with very little gear and poor equipment. I was wearing skate shoes that I bought in China, the only food I brought was a stack of flat bread and I had no tent on this trip. As expected a lot of things went wrong. After about 15 miles into the hike my shoes started falling apart and continued to fall apart the more I hiked. I encountered rain and spent the night hearing avalanches that I thought was thunder and I got lost on the Glacier on the way back with my deteriorating shoes. I improvised and dealt with the problems as best as I could and finished the entire hike without any major injuries. To this day this is my favorite place on the planet because of the surreal landscape and the overwhelming beauty.

This blog is not about Pakistan but about hiking the PCT. I feel that I have done a lot of stupid things up to this point but that is how I've learned the most. I hope that I learn more and pass on some of that knowledge to all of you. If not maybe just give you an idea of what it is like on the PCT in 2015.
